Jolie Gentry, CrossFit Games Athlete Profile Part 1 - video [wmv] [mov] Since today is a lovely Rest Day, might I suggest working on some skills. Try something that you aren't doing so well with. For example, if you are lacking in your push ups, try doing three sets of 20 push ups. Something I used to do was 100 push ups for time. This way, I got to practice my push ups but also got in a mini work out. If that's not your idea of how to spend your rest day, you could always just watch ten hours of CrossFit videos on YouTube! As you start to learn about this CrossFit culture, you start to "pick out" your CrossFit heroes. One of my CrossFit heroes is Jolie Gentry, the 2007 CrossFit Games champion. She's an amazing role model and an outstanding athlete. A Newark police officer and SWAT member, Jolie is also a trainer at CrossFit One World in Union City. She is widely known in the CrossFit community and can be seen at various certification seminars as a CF HQ trainer. You can see her in various CF videos such as "The Bear" and the latest, "Jolie Gentry athlete profile
as seen on the main site.

WHOA. Rest Day = no posts.
So, Kaela is napping and I'm getting a shopping list ready for Costco. I've been browsing the CFSCC Zone blog for recipes. Lo and I discussed some last night at the gym so I decided I would try some.
See, I started Zone last Jan but fell off around May. For the whole summer I pretty much ate decent meals but they weren't balanced. Then in August I picked up on the Anabolic Diet which helped lean me out and get down to 130#. But since the holidays, I fell off the track again. I've been watching my carbs but miss the structure of the Zone.
So, I'm making an attempt to make a come back. lol. Not sure if I'm going as far as color coded tupperware like Lo and DJ, but close.
What's on the list?
Salad, milk, eggs, whole wheat pitas, shrimp, salmon, broccoli, asparagus, bell peppers, cheese, ground turkey, flank steak, plain non-fat cottage cheese and yogurt, turkey bacon, green beans, apples, kidney beans, chicken breasts, tomatoes, diapers and stamps.
I'm not done yet but I'm getting there. =]

Awww. Roman was like, "Just relax..." Haha! Cute. Did you see them at the games last year, holding hands without shirts on? Haha! SUPER FIT couple. One day, baby body of mine...one day. ;) And then we'll have Ed B. III and I'll be doing 115# PP the day before I go in to labor like Annie.

OH YEAH...
"The Ice Fish Tournament is this Saturday. Sign-ups start at 6:00pm. It's pot luck food again. Bring the whole family. We'll have a keg of beer for adults and a jumper for the kids. Always fun times at One World!"
Anyone planning on going? I'd like to go but there's a killer fight on...
Posted by: sakura | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 01:34 PM
I am interested in going to the Ice Fishing Tourney- Robot are you competing? Anyone else thinking about it but maybe didn't want to go alone?
Geez thanks Sakura for busting me out about the colored tupperware-gosh, it helps us know our blocks! He gets 4, I get 3! =)~
Zoning helps me beat Gizzle!
Posted by: Lo | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 02:24 PM
Lo, you get 3? When I did the math on me (if I did it right), it was 2 blocks per day, but I'm just getting started.
I love the idea of colored tuppeware, very smart. I don't think it would work for my family (too many of us :).
What is "The Ice Fish Tournament"?
Posted by: Fathia | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 06:06 PM
Ok I don't think you did the math correct because I get 3-3 block meals and 2-1 block snacks. I am headed out the door right now, but I would love to go over it with you later~
I have some good recipes I can share with you too.
Julia have you tried anymore?

Lo/Fathia-
What's this block eating concept??? I just now got the Zone book, I have skimmed through it but I haven't found anything on blocks....I'm confused will one of you explain to me when I see you guys please!?!
Posted by: Liz | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 08:05 PM
Blocks are simple. Just a simple equation of body weight, body fat % and activity level. Go here for a block calculator: http://www.drsears.com/ZoneResources/BodyFatCalculator/tabid/414/Default.aspx
This is the easiest way to figure out your blocks. After you start seeing results, you can "tweak" your blocks to help you burn more fat, build more mass, etc.
And a simple resource for blocks, go here:
http://www.mitymous.net/weights/zoneblox.htm
It gives a simple breakdown of what foods to eat and how much to eat.
p.s. I have a special video to share tomorrow.

Thanks DJ, makes sense now. YAY!!!
Posted by: Liz | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 09:02 PM
No explaination on why Pizza is sore in the bottom...Giz, what did you do?
Posted by: Davey G | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 09:08 PM
I don't think I'll be rowing anytime soon!!
Posted by: Fathia | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 10:01 PM
Sorry, I reread my post about blocks, I wrote it wrong. I meant to say I would get 2 blocks per meal/day. My total being 10 blocks.

Lo - we've tried the stuffed peppers which we really liked but so far that's it. Last weekend I was searching for something else to make but found myself overwhelmed with all the recipes available. I just couldn't choose. :)
So, Angela and I went to a Zumba class in Dixon this evening (first time to this class) and both happened to be wearing our CFS shirts and black pants (looked like we were wearing uniforms). :) It was funny!

I think Sakura posted as DJ- cause DJ didn't have all those factoids about blocks- I do the cooking! He does the eating!
Posted by: Lo | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 10:21 PM
So when are we doing this Zone workshop? Any date set up yet?
Posted by: Fathia | Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 10:59 PM
The calculator was very helpful. For the activity options, because we Crossfit, do you use the elite athlete choice?
Posted by: Maris | Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 01:58 AM
FREAKIN' A DUDE. I swear to goodness I logged out and it STILL had me down as DJ. Sorry guys...

"elite athete" status is a personal decision- just because you do crossfit doesn't mean you automatically are an elite athlete. the reason i say this is because not everyone follows the 3 days on, 1 day off- not everyone gives 100%, not everyone counts every rep or gives full extention- i can't suggest that just because one may come to the gym 3 days a week and rests the other 7, that they are infact elite.
you also have to factor in what your goal is, are you trying to lose weight but maintain energy? if that is the case you might pick a less active option to cut food intake and lose weight.
all that being said, i train everyday (when not injured), doing 98% of workouts RX'd- i label myself "active".
Posted by: Lo | Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 09:52 AM
correction: "...one may come to the gym 3 days a week and rest the other" SHOULD BE 4 DAYS! COUNT LO-GEEZ
ugh- i will finish my coffee now.

It is well known that in order to get a good figure it is necessary not only to go to the gym, but also to eat healthy food and tale care of lots of other things - http://file.sh/Nutrition+Fitness+Tips+Abdominal+Workouts+Recipes+torrent.html - this all should be taken into account.

i would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was strained and the sofa faded.
i would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
i would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
